ICS Education Philosophy
ICS believes that all those engaged in shipping should have an understanding of the legal principles, economics, insurance, finance etc to be able to have a mature discussion with a member of the other professions such that they understand the advice being given; and have sufficient grasp of the topic to be able to ask a supplementary question – be able to communicate professionally. Additionally it is important to know one’s own boundary of knowledge – essentially when to seek advice. Gaining advice on one of the myriad documents in shipping can help avoid one of the many legal pitfalls. It makes commercial sense to seek this advice before signing rather than seeking legal assistance after the event to reducing the consequences. ICS strongly believes that the better educated and trained the shipping professional is the better placed he/she is to make better decisions.
