Coracle is an e-learning platform. We offer online resources for the shipping industry.
Q. Why study to become a chartered shipbroker?
By becoming a Chartered Shipbroker you will be demonstrating to your colleagues, your clients and your shareholders that you are an expert. We believe that this will have a positive impact on your business.
Q. Is Coracle the same as TutorShip?
Coracle courses are based on the TutorShip books. The information in the Coracle courses covers at least the same ground as the TutorShip books.
Q. Do I need a hard copy of the book as well?
We strongly recommend that you do not. All the material that you require is online from the Coracle website. Save a tree!
Q. Why would I choose Coracle?
Coracle is all about providing you with a means of accessing the information that you need to attempt your ICS exams.
The engaging and interactive content is based on the ICS TUTORSHIP course.
You can start your studies when YOU want.
You can take as long as YOU want on your studies.
You can study wherever YOU are.
E-learning is a non-disruptive form of study: we don’t tell you when or where to study…
We understand that you are busy already, so rather than fitting your work in around your studies, we want to help you fit your studies in around your work.
Pay for your courses when you want to start studying.
Because Coracle is a growing project, we are adding new resources in the form of video, audio, web links etc. wherever possible to help support the existing course.
Q. Are the Coracle tutors the same as the TutorShip/ICS tutors?
Yes. Coracle is a distance learning centre of the ICS and therefore the ICS Head Office allocates tutors in the same way as they do for TutorShip students. Please click here for more information on tutor support.
Q. I gather that some courses, such as Shipping Business and Introduction to Shipping, have quite a lot of video content as well as text. Do the videos have the same content as the text?
Not exactly. Where there are video presentations, they form a brief summary or introduction, depending on how you use them. You cannot do the course by just looking at the short videos – you also need to look at the detailed text and ideally do the assignments.
Q. If I have some resources that would help enhance a course, what should I do?
Please let us know! We are always looking for extra material to help enhance the courses.
Q. Are there any software requirements to view a Coracle course?
You will also need Acrobat Reader, which is available from www.adobe.com.
At Coracle, we use Firefox as our browser: we suggest that you do as well… You can download Firefox for free by clicking the logo below:
Q. English is not my first language… Can I still use Coracle?
Certainly! We have tried to produce all of our material in as readable a form as possible however if you feel that you would like additional help with your English, then we also offer English as a Foreign Language courses.
Q. When are the exams?

ICS exams are held in many locations around the world. Please click here for the exam centres. It is sometimes possible for new exam centres to be set up: please contact the ICS directly BEFORE Oct 31st to enquire.
