Commodity Markets Course (London April 14)

Objective

To understand the economics and function of commodity markets from a practical perspective.

Places on this course

This course is a 1 day course in London on April 14, 2011.
Please note that places on this course are limited to a max of 12 students. Please book early to avoid disappointment!

Course Sections

Introduction and overview to commodities, including freight
Commodity prices, forward prices, price economics
Physical markets, paper markets, hedging, hedge efficiency
Time series analysis / What-if analysis / Simulations
Value at Risk

Examples used through the day will be specifically related to the shipping industry.

Goals:
1. to learn about the above topics
2. to become an Excel professional

Pre-requisites

• No experience of commodity business is required for this course.
• As an attendee of this course, you will receive complimentary access to the Coracle emissions trading module

Course methodology and Contents

Course contents, with examples, are instructed in a way to motivate participants to actively follow the contents using their own computers.

Course contents are trained with the following training methodology:
• Theory, explanation and demonstration with MS Excel by the trainer
• Independent practice of the participants using their own computers
• Assisting, checking and recapitulation by the trainer

This course is limited in size to ensure a relaxed, but productive learning environment.

This course has an emphasis on interactivity to ensure that participants can liaise with the trainer to source their knowledge prior to, during, as well as after the course.

 

Course organisation

This course is offered in London. The venue is near Moorgate tube station in the City of London.

PLEASE NOTE: Participants are required to bring a personal computer with MS Excel installed.

Timings:
09:30 – 12:30 (with 15 min break at 11:00)
12:30 – 13:30 Lunch (included)
13:30 – 17:00 (with 15 min break at 15:00)

• Deep knowledge of commodity markets (especially energy, oil, products, refinery, shipping) and financial markets (treasury, capital markets, instruments, risk management).
• Experienced trainer for more than 20 years, senior consultant, product manager, risk manager and managing director.
